Little is known about the origins of April Fools’ Day, but experts say it’s been celebrated in the UK since at least the 19th century, when children were commonly the victims of pranks.
Well why let kids have all the fun? When your friends and colleagues are busy trawling the web for the day’s best April Fools’ stories they won’t even notice that you’re planning your own dastardly deeds around them. This is our pick of failsafe, tried and tested pranks that are sure to fool the kids and your mates too.
Frozen Phone Screen
A prank firmly for the 21st Century and sure to confuse all ages
1. Take a screenshot of your friend's home screen (press the Power + Home buttons at the same time)
2. Hold the Home button until their apps start wiggling.
3. Drag all their Home Screen apps to the right onto another screen. Press the Home button when done to stop the wiggling.
4. Go to Settings > Wallpapers & Brightness > Choose A New Wallpaper and set their Home Screen wallpaper to the screenshot you just took.
Now, when they tap the apps on their home screen, nothing will happen. Muhahaha!
Glued Pound Coin
An oldy but a goody. If you grew up or went to school in the UK you’ll know all about this one. Pick up some super glue, take a pound coin from your pocket and glue to the ground where you know your kids/mates/family will pass by.
Now we’re not for one minute condoning vandalism so make sure you’re able to remove it afterwards, but this is bound to confuse and get you a laugh or two!
Block a mouse sensor with a piece of paper and some tape. Yep, it’s really that simple, but you’ll drive the person using the mouse absolutely mad. They’ll check everything else first, and if you're in an office no doubt they’ll make a rather sheepish call to the IT department to complain that their mouse isn’t working properly. Care about getting caught? Tape a piece of paper to the bottom of the mouse. Want them to know it was you who did it? Tape a photo of your own face there instead.
Salt ‘n’ Sugar Switch
You’ve just woken up and all you need is a fresh cup of coffee to get you pepped up and ready to start the day. Right? Wrong. We can’t imagine there can be many worse starts to the day then someone putting salt in the sugar bowl and sipping in a hot mug of brown salt water, but if you can think of one please let us know.
We all know someone who has an irrational phobia of creepy-crawlies, which is what makes this prank as universally cruel as it is simple to execute. Grab a black pen and some paper and draw a spider or other 6-legged critter, fill in the outline with pen so it’s all black, then cut it out and pop it on the inside of your victim’s favourite lampshade. Now all you have to do it wait until they flick the light switch and all hell will break loose.
