Who can give me impartial advice about energy efficiency?
You’ll find plenty of energy-saving advice right here on our Boost website. However, if you want to find even more information, we believe the best place is the Energy Saving Trust.
The Trust is a truly independent and impartial organisation that helps people save energy every day. You can find a huge range of information on their website, including:
How to make your home more energy efficient
Quick tips for instant energy savings
Where to apply for grants and support to improve your home
They’ve also got a range of interactive, and extremely useful, tools to help you:
Find out which renewable technologies could be right for your home
See what you could earn or save through the Feed-In Tariff if you install photovoltaic solar panels on your roof … and much more.
They provide in-depth information about renewable energy sources and how you can use them to generate your own energy and heat. They explain how to insulate different areas of your home, including the loft, floors, cavity walls and even solid walls, and give comprehensive tips about draught-proofing and lagging water tanks, explaining the pros, cons and costs of each technique.
They also offer hints and tips about heating and boilers, energy-efficient home appliances and lighting. And there’s plenty of helpful information about saving water. You may not realise that the amount of water you use can contribute considerably to your energy bill. In fact, according to the Energy Saving Trust, around 21% of a typical gas-heated home’s heating bill comes from heating the water for showers, baths, washing up and so on. That’s an average cost of about £140 a year. The Energy Saving Trust’s website shows how saving water can reduce your energy use and bills, reduce the impact on your local environment, and reduce your carbon footprint.
If you can’t find what you need on their website, the Trust can provide personal advice – just get in touch.
